Where We Are: The Lively Campus

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has been regarded as one of the best higher education institutions in the world – on top of being equipped with one of the strongest faculties in Indonesian studies in the nation.

Having been ranked 19th in the 2013 Academic Ranking of World Universities and 3rd nationally in 2010 for its research expenditures, the university’s commitment to the pursuit of excellence is of absolute certainty. Being considered as one of the Public Ivies and consistently pitched as one of the best value public colleges by The Princeton Review, the University of Wisconsin-Madison has a long history and tradition to be proud of.

However, it is not only the quality of our education that sets us apart. Students genuinely feel like they belong to something special and intimate, despite the university having one of the biggest populations nationwide (42,000 enrollments per year). Be it cheering for our beloved Wisconsin Badgers at football games or lounging on the pretty Terrace during the summer, there is always something to be proud of and look forward to.

As a part of the international community, Permias Madison is welcomed by the positive diverse environment that has increasingly characterized the university. UW-Madison is home to one of the largest foreign student populations in the country and is also among America’s premier institutions for International Studies. It confers more degrees to foreign candidates than nearly any other American institution and offers over 80 modern and ancient languages – more than any other university in the world.

Not only that, over the past 10 years, UW-Madison has awarded more M.A.s and Ph.D.s in fields related to Southeast Asia than any other American university. And as if those facts do not excite you enough, our Indonesian studies library collection is one of the strongest in North America, encompassing over 42,000 titles in Bahasa Indonesia and 1,427 in Javanese.
